There are various approaches to best practices strategies with your blog. What you want to do is find as many practices as possible, and try them all out, to see which ones actually work. You will be at a disadvantage if you’re relatively new to blogging. If you simply take one step at a time, the learning curve will not be so difficult.
People that have blogs, that go on vacations, need to think of how they will update their blog while they are relaxing. Avoiding dry spots is absolutely imperative, more so than anything else with your blog while you’re gone. Just tell your readers that you will be out of town for a while. But then they’ll wonder why you don’t create posts and then auto-post them to your blog on a schedule. Using plugins specifically designed for this purpose is something that you should utilize. By doing this, your readers will be happy, and you also have the search engines returning to your website regularly to index the new material.
Your posting activity, or frequency, serves to condition search engine bots and spiders, and you really want to keep things smoothly running. You’ll usually see others recommending you make your posts a certain maximum length. The reasoning for this is that web users don’t like long posts and don’t read them. The posts that you make will have to be a grand experiment, as you try to figure out what length of post is best for your audience. Many people will read something up to 1000 words, whereas some will not. But the key here is the content has to be interesting and valuable. People will read the information that you send to them, or that you post, but it has to be interesting, or at least perceived as being valuable. 400 word posts often work best, as most people will take the time to read that. Writing a 350 word post is probably something that they will also read.
If you have been blogging for years, it’s easy to fall into a rut and not be able to get out of it. Since it is possible to get burned out, we need to address this problem for just a moment. Changing up your posts, and using something different, is something that we often forget to do.
This can really be a challenge for just about anybody. Great content is why your readers come to your blog, and why you need to consistently make it worth reading. You can make interesting posts, but on the other hand, if you go too far, no one will want to read what you have written. Your blog posts should always have some personality to them. Plus they should be funny! Changing subjects is fine, but don’t do it in a predictable manner. You need to have a consistent writing voice, but you also need to do unexpected things as well.
Blogging is fun and challenging, and it’s a lot like a puzzle sometimes. Always remember that proper blogging practices should always be implemented, with your target audience always in the forefront. It’s easy to forget about the people that are in your audience, so don’t do that – pay attention to them, and make sure they know you care, no matter what it takes.
